The Jack Nicklaus-designed Springfield Royal Country Club, located on the Hua Hin bypass, is one of the region's finest courses and a great alternative to Pineapple Valley and Black Mountain.
Designed to meet the demands of a true championship course, Springfield nevertheless offers a pleasant challenge for golfers of all abilities. Each hole offers five teeing areas, but only professionals should venture onto the back Jack teesWater hazards are common, and each hole has its own unique character, requiring finesse and precision. The rough, composed of rolling hills and bordered by a forest of mature trees, does not forgive mistakes.
True to Nicklaus's signature style, the course often catches unwary players off guard, especially those who miss a fade. The return, even more demanding when fatigue sets in, can quickly turn into a trap with its massive bunkers and water features positioned to the right of the fairways. On the other hand, straight, accurate shots are richly rewarded, as the layout is not exceptionally long.
The opening hole is a seemingly simple, 350-meter par 4, but its well-protected green demands great precision. The signature hole, the 18th, is a spectacular par 5 with an island-shaped green. Reachable in two shots by daring long hitters, it perfectly embodies the risk/reward dilemma. After a successful drive over the trees on the left dogleg, the green becomes accessible for a second shot… but it's further away than it looks!
In 2005, Springfield expanded its offerings with nine additional holes (Course C), designed by award-winning architect Lee Schmidt. This layout, even more technical and challenging than Nicklaus's original 18 holes (Courses A & B), reinforces the club's reputation as one of Hua Hin's most complete and challenging courses.
Springfield Royal offers much more than a golf course. Its clubhouse, once considered first-class, remains one of its highlights. Situated high above the ground, its top floor offers breathtaking views that leave a lasting impression. The interior, composed primarily of polished marble and granite, evokes an opulence worthy of a grand palace.
The locker rooms are adequate and functional. Finally, the presence of experienced and fully trained caddies contributes to making the playing experience at Springfield even more enjoyable.
