Mission Hills Phuket Golf Resort

If you're looking for a picture-perfect oceanfront golf course to play in Phuket, the Jack Nicklaus-designed course at Mission Hills Golf Resort Phuket is the one for you. The golf course is nestled amidst mangrove forests on Phuket's northeast coast. The golf course offers incredible ocean views from almost every hole and even includes several holes overlooking the Andaman Sea, as sometimes seen during televised PGA tournaments.

The large white sand bunkers contrast with the translucent blue hues of the ocean waters and the vibrant greens of the Bermuda grass on the fairways and the Sea Isle 2000 Paspalum grass on the practice surfaces. The ocean view comes at a price, as water comes into play on seven holes, and the prevailing sea breezes make the game very tricky at certain times of the day.

Jack Nicklaus designed several distinctive features at Mission Hills Phuket. Among the best holes, the par-5 2nd requires two well-placed shots to allow for a reasonable third shot to the island green. Next comes the 4th hole, the first of the ocean holes, a medium-length par-3 that offers spectacular sea views. The putting surface is an island of grass in a sea of white sand.

The par-4 5th hole plays to an island green from an island tee. A solid sand slough near the beach with a substantial elevation change running through the middle of the fairway adds to the excitement of this hole.

The 12th hole, signature and index 1, is the longest par-4 on the course, measuring 440 meters from the black tees. Two long forehand shots are required, or a precise chip and putt for a shorter player, to reach par. The tee shot must carry more than 220 meters from the black tees and land on the left side of the fairway. The angle will result in the shortest shot to a well-guarded green.

The green is protected by a lake on the right side and a deep hollow on the left, which penalizes those who come out of the water to get away from it. If you're lucky enough to land your second shot safely on or near the green, you should be happy with a par, or even a respectable bogey. Whatever the result, take your time on this very challenging hole and enjoy the breathtaking view of the ocean near the green and the picturesque mountain peaks in the distance.

Playing conditions at Mission Hills may vary. Fairways and greens are always being improved, so check with us for exact maintenance. Individual carts are required, even though the course is relatively flat and easy to navigate.
